Student support and new podcast series this Disability History Month

Disability History Month is observed annually from 20 November to 20 December, focusing on the history and contributions of disabled individuals while promoting awareness and inclusion.

Here at LJMU we want to outline the support available at the university for students with a disability, long-term health conditions, mental health conditions, or who are neurodivergent.

Tell the university

We want to make it easier for LJMU students who have a disability, or are neurodiverse, to tell the university. This is so reasonable adjustments can be made, and we can support you throughout your studies, ensuring you get the very best student experience.

We've updated our systems so that it is easy to tell us, at any time, about your disability or being neurodiverse. Whether you’ve been recently diagnosed, or didn’t share this information at the time of starting your studies, you can complete the Disability Declaration form here.

Podcast series centred around mental health and careers

Launching for this Disability History Month, final year Business student Muskaan, Health Psychology masters student Maryam, and Sociology graduate Martha recently undertook a Co-Creation Internship with the Student Futures team centred around mental health.

The interns explored how mental health can impact career development and opportunities. They researched Student Futures provision of support around mental health and created a range of resources/initiatives that will support students and graduates who have experienced mental health difficulties, helping them prepare for the workplace, consider their careers plans and have a greater appreciation of support and opportunities available to them.

As part of their internship, the trio hosted and recorded a podcast series to gather information for their research and chatted to range of guests from across the university to get their take on the relationship between mental health and careers and employability.

Listen or watch on Student Futures YouTube channel as part of Disability History Month and be part of the conversation around mental health.
