Team spirit trophy for LJMU at Lord Mayor's Dragon Boat Race
Team LJMU gave it their all at the weekend for the 4th annual Lord Mayor’s Dragon Boat Race which saw our amateur crews compete against many seasoned paddlers, taking home the trophy for team spirit.
Around 50 members of staff raced throughout the day at Liverpool Watersports Centre, supporting Lord Mayor Cllr Richard Kemp’s fundraiser for Local Solutions and their AIMS project which supports vulnerable young people living in the city.
Nothing could dampen Team LJMU’s spirits – not even a near capsizing as one crew attempted to avoid an overly protective swan who was stalking many of the boats on the water.
Plus, we had the opportunity to showcase all that LJMU has to offer with lots of visitors to our event truck throughout the day showcasing our robotics and engineering capabilities.
A huge thank you and well done goes out to all who helped to organise and take part in this year’s event which has provided invaluable support for our charity partner Local Solutions.
More about Local Solutions
Local Solutions, a charity launched in 1974, delivers services to support individuals, families and communities across the Liverpool City Region and North Wales, focusing on supporting people experiencing disadvantage, exclusion and vulnerability.
Funds raised from the Lord Mayor’s Dragon Boat race 2025 will support their AIMS project which provides courses for young people aged 16 to 24 that are temporary residents in the charity’s supported accommodation services. Tailored courses are also provided to leaving care organisations, youth offending services, probation teams, supported housing providers and schools, helping young people to achieve personal goals while keeping them safe and maintaining tenancies.
