Celebrating the life of Peter Law

A special event has been held to celebrate the life of our much-missed colleague Peter Law.

Peter worked at LJMU for 12 years, most recently with the Admissions team. He died peacefully in February.

The university hosted a celebration of Peter’s life at the Outdoor Learning Zone at the back of the John Lennon Art and Design Building.

Many of Peter’s colleagues, friends and family attended the event to dedicate the newly planted cherry blossom tree (Prunus amanogawa) and memorial bench in remembrance of Peter.

All memorials were funded by friends, family and colleagues, with donations of over £4,000.

Calm and perspective of nature

Fitting tributes were given at the ceremony by Professor Phil Vickerman, Tim Sellars, Dr Ceri Daniels, Peter’s father John and his friend Ellie Jones.

Peter often spoke of the calm and perspective he found in nature and had a deep appreciation for its quiet beauty. He often shared his enthusiasm for the outdoors with colleagues and was always keen to be involved in nature-based wellbeing initiatives - especially those that included time spent socialising around the fire pit.

That is why it feels so appropriate that his tree has been planted near that very spot. It reflects not only his love for nature but also his warm, fun-loving spirit we all remember fondly.
