Help us improve our support for students from Armed Forces families

LJMU and JMSU want to find out more about students from Armed Forces families and is conducting research to help shape our support moving forwards for this group.

We know that LJMU has a number of students who come from service families, however research suggests that service children are less likely to come to university due to experiencing a disjointed education, often spending time abroad or moving regularly due to life as part of a military family.

We want to know how we can better support entry to university for this group of students, and what additional support we can offer when you are here and after you graduate.

Our research is being led by our Armed Forces Steering Group and aims to find out the current situation and what students from Armed Forces families feel they need. Then based on the findings, design and deliver bespoke support, mentoring, activities and materials that complement our current offer for existing students while supporting prospective students as they start their university journey.

The main focus of the research is a short survey, which can be completed online, and there is also an option to take part in focus groups and develop materials in the future.

For further information, email LJMU’s Armed Forces Champion Gus Ryrie, or the student research lead John Goulding.
