LJMU remains a great place to work

The 2025 staff survey ‘Your LJMU Your Voice’ shows staff continue to believe LJMU is a good place to work.

Initial findings of survey

The initial findings have been collated and again show a positive picture of working for the university. The responses also identify some areas for improvement across the institution.

The most positive responses within the survey were across the following themes:

  • Engagement
  • Culture and values of the university
  • Health and safety of our working environment
  • Purpose

Meanwhile, action areas have been identified around:

  • Career development
  • Line management
  • Health and wellbeing

Thank you to all staff who took part in the 2025 ‘Your LJMU, Your Voice’ survey.

Tina Purkis, Executive Director of Human Resources

Tina Purkis continued:

"Your feedback is essential in helping us understand the key issues affecting colleagues across LJMU, both institutionally and locally.  Our staff engagement score has risen to 80% which is an increase of 3% from last year, and 6% above the HE sector benchmark for staff engagement.  Which is something we can all be proud of.

“While the results are positive, we recognise that there is still work to do, and we remain committed to our vision and ensuring LJMU remains a great place to work.”

Following the 2024 survey results, LJMU has made significant progress over the past 12 months, delivering more than 150 actions across the university, based on the survey feedback.

Next Steps

Over the coming weeks, directors and heads of areas will discuss their results with teams and begin developing local action plans. All staff will soon receive access to a dashboard showing the results for your school or department alongside overall university scores for comparison. This will be available via an invitation link from People Insights during the week commencing 21 July.

‘High Five’ Recognition Platform

One key theme from the 2024 survey was that not all staff felt valued for the contribution they make to the university.  In response, the Executive Leadership Team introduced several initiatives to enhance recognition and foster a culture where saying ‘thank you’ becomes standard practice.

Following this, we are delighted to announce the launch of the ‘highfive’ Recognition Platform, available on our existing Vivup Benefits Platform.

This new platform enables members of ELT and the Directorate to award £30 gift cards to colleagues in recognition of their contributions and commitment. Also supporting peer-to-peer recognition (non-monetary) so that everyone can share ‘high fives’ with colleagues who make a positive difference to their day.

We encourage all staff to explore the platform to celebrate and appreciate each other’s efforts, underpinned by our university values. You can find out more and ‘highfive’ a colleague on the Vivup Platform, by selecting the Vivup highfive heading.
