Brewing a culture of openness

Researchers from across disciplines at LJMU are gathering over tea and coffee to explore one of the most pressing issues in modern research: reproducibility.

The ReproducibiliTea Journal Club is creating a welcoming space for open discussion on open science and the initiative recently kicked off with an introductory session led by Dr Andy Jones.

Dr Jones, Reader in the School of Psychology, shared insights from his own research and the methods he used to promote transparency and reproducibility. He then turned to synthetic datasets - an increasingly important tool for sharing data when privacy or sensitivity concerns prevent direct access. Dr Jones demonstrated how synthetic data can be generated to mirror real datasets, enabling researchers to share and reuse data responsibly without compromising confidentiality.

The club, part of the global ReproducibiliTea network, invites researchers at all career stages at LJMU to engage with literature on open science, research integrity, and methodological reform. It is open to all, regardless of discipline or experience.

The informal, inclusive format encourages participation and collaboration, with opportunities for attendees to present their own work in future sessions.

If you’re intrigued, feel free to stop by for a cup of tea (hence ReproducibiliTea) or coffee, and meet some colleagues at the next event with details to be shared soon.

In the meantime email Dr Andy Jones or email Amie Longthorne if you have any questions about the club.
