Exceptional support for care experienced and estranged students

LJMU has been recognised for its continued support and advice for care-experience and estranged students from the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers (NNECL).

Reaccredited for the next three years

Since 2022, the university has been awarded the NNECL Quality Mark and over the summer months has been reaccredited for the next three years.

The ratings show that LJMU has improved its position receiving an ‘enhanced’ rating for five of the categories and achieving ‘exceptional’ in a further two for ‘support for students before they arrive’ and ‘continuous improvements.’

Yvonne Turnbull, Director of Student Life and Wellbeing and chair of the cross-university steering group said:

“Renewal of the Quality Mark was always going to be an important area of work this summer. The cross-university steering group has done a huge amount of work to prepare for this renewal and to develop an action plan that will take us though the next three-year period.

“We are really proud of our achievements. I do hope that care experienced and estranged students feel confident that services across the university are focused on their needs, and that they feel able to reach out to services when needed.”

Yvonne Turnbull, Director of Student Life and Wellbeing

The NNECL Quality Mark reaccreditation directly relates to LJMU’s Access and Participation Plan as well as the university’s wider commitments to support disadvantaged students.
