Could your team support the next cohort of entry-level apprentices?

LJMU is celebrating its latest cohort of apprentices who have completed the university’s Entry-Level Apprenticeship Programme.

The apprenticeship combines two years of learning, development and hands on experience for 18- to 25-year-olds at LJMU.  The Diversity and Inclusion team is now looking for teams across the university to help deliver the next programme cohort.

On the job training

Throughout the two-year apprenticeship, individuals combine on-the-job training with structured based learning, enabling the development of valuable skills, knowledge and experience while making a meaningful contribution to teams across the university.

The apprenticeship programme is organised by the Diversity and Inclusion team in collaboration with teams across the university.

The 2024 to 2026 cohort of apprentices were based in Campus Services, Estates Development, Library Services, IT Services, and the Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science. Several entry level apprentices have already secured permanent roles within the university, demonstrating the programme's success in developing skilled, confident colleagues ready to progress their careers at LJMU.

I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given and am now proud to say that I am a Technical Officer at LJMU, having secured a permanent position earlier this year.

An apprentice reflects on their experience

Reflecting on his experience, one apprentice said:

"I've been treated with respect and as a full part of the team from day one, despite being one of the younger members of staff. I am grateful for the opportunity I have been given and am now proud to say that I am a Technical Officer at LJMU, having secured a permanent position earlier this year."

Moni Akinsanya, Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion, said:

"By investing in talent today, we are building our workforce for tomorrow. I am incredibly proud of everything these apprentices have achieved over the past two years. Their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment have been evident throughout their programmes, and I would also like to thank the managers and directors who have embraced the apprentices and supported their development so wholeheartedly."

Support the next cohort of entry-level apprentices

The Diversity and Inclusion team is now looking for teams to come forward to help deliver the next opportunities for the Entry-Level Apprenticeship Programme.

Departments interested in supporting the next generation of talent through the Entry-Level Apprenticeship Programme and learning more about the benefits of hosting an apprentice, should contact the Diversity and Inclusion Team.
