Reading for Wellbeing groups

“We lose ourselves in books, and we find ourselves there too.”

We believe the Bibliotherapy collection does more than support individuals—it helps us talk more openly about how we feel. By sharing books and stories, we aim to increase awareness of mental health and highlight the importance of emotional wellbeing.

Our Reading for Wellbeing groups are facilitated by the LJMU Counselling and Mental Health Team. Sessions explore specific books or themes from our collection and occasionally we are even joined by the authors themselves.

No pressure, just connection

  • No specific reading required: You don’t need to have read a particular book to attend.
  • No preparation needed: There is no “homework” or prior study required.
  • Your pace: You can participate as much or as little as feels comfortable for you.

How will a group help me?

Our groups are designed to foster community and support. They offer a safe space for:

  • sharing thoughts and feelings in a relaxed environment
  • gaining new insights and perspectives from others
  • learning practical wellbeing strategies
  • connecting with a community that 'gets it'

These groups run throughout the year and can be booked via saw.ljmu.ac.uk.
