ThinkTNE Forum 2024

ThinkTNE Forum 2024 is the British Council East Asia’s flagship event focusing on quality and excellence in transnational education. Leading education experts in the UK and East Asia will be engaged to discuss top priorities and challenges in the development and delivery of TNE.

This year’s theme Progressive Partnerships in Transnational Education follows on from the discussion at Going Global Conference 2022 and aims to continue to explore how we can encourage a move from purely ‘teaching franchises’ to institutional collaborations that progresses with ambitions and visions for students, academics and TNE management in-country.

This one-day forum will be held in-person at Sunway Resort Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

All ThinkTNE participants are invited to share your success stories via poster showcase which would be displayed at the ThinkTNE Forum 2024. The Posters offer a unique opportunity for UK-EA TNE providers to present your journey in developing successful TNE partnerships, and the innovations which you have applied to grow and sustain the partnerships.

The Poster Showcase should address one of the following three distinct themes:

  • Journey to establishing successful Transnational Education.
  • Best practices in TNE operations and management (for example student/academic engagement, industry involvement, professional support staff development, etcetera).
  • Innovation beyond teaching collaborations in Transnational Education.

If you are interested to present your TNE case study, please submit your abstract to be considered for the Poster Presentation at ThinkTNE Forum 2024 by 19 January 2024.

Inaugural Trilateral Innovation Partnership Conference

East Asia Agent Conference

UK-Malaysia Higher Education Roundtable and Partnership Showcase

Date: 28 February 2024, 9am to 5pm

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Themed reinvigorating partnerships and building ambition, the UK-Malaysia Higher Education Roundtable aims to:

  • highlight the achievement and examine the challenges of higher education collaborations through the years across teaching and learning, mobility and research excellence
  • examine the ambition and appetite to reinvigorate partnerships and accelerate impact in tandem with regional and global developments
  • explore the roles of diverse stakeholders and innovative mechanisms such as the UK-Malaysia University Consortium in developing and sustaining UK-Malaysia collaborations
  • recommend an action plan which is underpinned by the UK-Malaysia Memorandum of Understanding in Higher Education

The roundtable will feature world café discussions, a partnership showcase and thematic panel sessions. This one-day event takes place at the Sunway Resort Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Study UK Alumni Awards

The Study UK Alumni Awards is a flagship event that celebrates the significant impact outstanding Malaysian UK alumni have made on their professions and societies. The awards will celebrate alumni, from professionals and entrepreneurs to artists and community leaders, across four broad categories.

  3. Culture and creativity.
  4. Social action.

The sixth edition of the Malaysian Study UK Alumni Awards will be held as a gala dinner celebration at the W Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

UK-MUC and Education Malaysia London Annual Convention and EXCEL Workshop

UK-MUC and Education Malaysia London (EML) jointly hosted delegates from UK-MUC member institutions at the High Commission of Malaysia in London at a Celebratory Event to mark the one-year anniversary of the Consortium.

The Opening Remarks were given by His Excellency Dato' Zakri Jaafar, High Commissioner of Malaysia, who emphasized the importance of international collaborations and partnerships in the higher education sector and highlighted the long-standing relationship between the UK and Malaysia.

Professor Dhiya Al-Jumeily OBE, LJMU presented on behalf of the Consortium Secretariat, providing an overview of UK-MUC activities in the first twelve months.  He also gave an update on the UK – Malaysia – ASEAN +3 Partnership Initiative: Catalyst Grants for Enhancing Graduate Employability.

Mr Lukman Zulkifly, Education Malaysia London (EML) outlined the role of EML as a point of reference for Information on Malaysia Higher Education Data for Market Intelligence, as a matchmaker to connect Malaysia and EU institutions for Higher Education collaborations, and as a facilitator to provide platforms for networking and marketing opportunities between the UK and Malaysia.

He also highlighted the Malaysian vision for the way forward to boost mobility programmes by increasing the number of joint awards/dual programmes, an in-country familiarisation programme for study abroad coordinators and repackaging existing mobility programmes to be more comprehensive and transformational.

Experiential Learning and Competency-Based Education Landscape (EXCEL) Workshop

The afternoon workshop was led by Prof. Madya Dr. Wan Zuhainis Binti Saad, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Dr Maria Garraffa, University of East Anglia.

Experiential Learning and Competency-Based Education Landscape (EXCEL) is a framework developed by the Academic Excellence Division, Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Malaysia aimed at transforming academic programs to produce lifelong learners, innovative adept entrepreneurs, creative practitioners and change-makers. 

EXCEL aims to address the imminent issues of graduates’ skill mismatch and skill gaps.  It is focused on providing learning experiences that are nested in the community and immersions in the industry.  Through the implementation of this framework, students of higher education institutions will be given the opportunity to indulge in meaningful research and pave their own learning pathways.

This half day workshop is designed for educators, trainers, and anyone interested in exploring and implementing innovative teaching and learning approaches that focus on creating the transferable skills and competencies that are essential to success in higher education.

Alumni UK Challenge Fund and Alumni UK Symposium

The inaugural Alumni UK Symposium will launch British Council Malaysia's 75th anniversary celebrations. Showcasing about 20 employers, the Careers Fair will provide an outstanding opportunity for UK Alumni to explore exciting career options with diverse companies who are keen to engage our exceptionally talented and ambitious UK Alumni who have globally recognised qualifications from UK higher education institutions.  This is a prime opportunity for UK Alumni who are at different stages in their professional lives and careers to consider expanding their opportunities in a wide range of fields, including business and management, engineering, technology, healthcare, economics, law, social work and sustainable development.
