We will ask you to read this information. If you are happy to take part, you will sign a consent form.
We can meet online on Microsoft Teams, by phone, or in person at a public place, your GP practice, or the university.
You can choose whether to chat with us 1 to 1, or in a group with other people also taking part.
During the meeting we will ask:
- your age
- gender
- ethnicity
- religion
- job title
- who else lives in your household (and their ages)
- what area you live in
We will then talk to you about your views of information you have seen or been given on the flu and its vaccine, where, when, how you got this information, how it could be improved, how you feel about the flu vaccine, and if the information helped you decide whether to get the vaccine or not. This will take up to an hour, and you will get a £25 voucher. We are also able to cover reasonable travel and childcare expenses, in line with LJMU policy.
If you tell us that you or someone you know is being hurt, we will have to tell someone (for example, your GP or the emergency services). We will let you know first if we must do this.
Please note:
Our chat will be audio recorded if you agree.
We will use what you tell us to help us improve the information people get given about vaccines. We will share what we find at conferences, in journal articles, and with people who are interested, such as Liverpool community organisations, healthcare staff, The Pandemic Institute, and CSL Seqirus. If you would like to learn what we find, you can give us your contact details and we will then send you the results in the format that you prefer.
If you agree, we would like to keep your contact details so we can ask you in the future to join an advisory group. This will be to help us conduct further research on health promotion.
We do not think so, but if you do not like any questions, we can move on, take a break, or stop. You can leave at any time.
We can give you support, or you can contact Samaritans (telephone: 116 123 24) or Spark & Co, a community led organisation for ethnically diverse groups.
The project will not help you directly, but it might help other people in the future. We hope this work will help make sure that people feel informed about the flu, and improve flu outcomes for people who come from ethnically diverse or deprived communities.
No one else will know that you have helped us with this project, unless you tell them. If you take part in a group, other people in the group may recognise you. We will ask everyone in the group to respect each other’s privacy.
We will need to use information from you for this research project. This information will include your name and contact details. People will use this information to do the research or to check your records to make sure that the research is being done properly. People who do not need to know who you are will not be able to see your name or contact details. Your data will have a code number instead.
Liverpool John Moores University is the sponsor of this research and is responsible for looking after your information.
We will keep all information about you safe and secure by:
- Keeping your information on a secure computer drive.
- Not sharing the recording of our chat, outside of the research team.
- Using the recording to create a written version of the conversation (a transcript). Once we have checked that the transcript is correct, we will delete the recording.
- Labelling the transcript of your chat with a code, and deleting any information that could identify you, so no one can tell who it is about.
- Deleting most identifiable information 3 months after the study ends, except for your consent form, which we will store securely for 5 years. Data that is not identifiable might be used for additional research.
- In our written reports, if we use quotes from your chat with us, we will make sure these cannot be linked to you.
Your data will not be shared outside the UK.
After the study ends
Once we have finished the study, we will keep some of the data so we can check the results. We will write our reports in a way that no-one can work out that you took part in the study. We will keep your study data for a maximum of 2 years. The study data will then be fully anonymised and securely archived or destroyed.
Choices about how your information is used
- You can stop being part of the project at any time, without giving a reason, but we will keep information about you that we already have.
- You have the right to ask us to access, remove, change or delete data we hold about you for the purposes of the study. You can also object to our processing of your data. We might not always be able to do this if it means we cannot use your data to do the research. If so, we will tell you why we cannot do this.
