   LJMU, WWF and HUTAN came together to examine better ways of detecting the great apes in the Bornean forest canopy, by using drones fitted with thermal-imaging cameras.

3. Transatlantic research partnership in the arts

   LJMU’s School of Art and Design has agreed a five-year partnership with Transart Institute in New York City, which will see the two organisations offer a joint transdisciplinary doctoral programme from summer 2020. The aim of the programme is to create an exchange in research areas including contemporary art, art history, curating and exhibition studies, digital culture and technology.

4. Mental Health Awareness Week: support for our staff and where to reach out

   This week, we’re highlighting the changes we’ve made, and what we’re working on next to support our students and staff, through sharing our LJMU Mental Health and Wellbeing Progress Report.

5. Final preparations for new curriculum management system

   Final preparations are under way for the launch of LJMUs brand new curriculum management system.

6. New performance review and development system

   Following a successful pilot scheme, from next week all staff will be able to access a brand new system to take ownership of their development and objective.

7. Menopause cafes to take place in person throughout 2023

   To keep conversations moving forward around the menopause, dates in January, April, July and October 2023 have been set for the next four menopause cafes.

8. Academic Registry training sessions February to July 2023

   There are still many staff training opportunities available this academic year, through to the end of July 2023, covering a range of topics.

9. Actions update from Staff Survey 2024

   Over the past six months, members of the Executive Leadership Team and the Directorate have actively engaged with their teams, holding discussions and developing action plans in response to the findings of the 2024 Staff Survey.

    LJMU is inviting applications for fully-funded PhD scholarships and our Thematic Doctoral Pathways programme.
