Grow your future with the Student Futures Team

Once you graduate from LJMU you are still able to access careers and employability support at any time, for life, and start-up support for up to five years after graduation. This includes speaking to a Careers and Employability Adviser about career options and opportunities, getting your application forms or CV checked, getting support to start a business, grow a business or become a freelancer, accessing our suite of digital tools and job board, or attending any of our events, including workshops, webinars, fairs or employer events. Whatever your situation, LJMU is here to help you grow your future.

1:1 support via a careers meeting

Gain clarity on your career next steps with 1:1 advice and guidance from our team of experienced and qualified careers professionals. Our advisers can help you decide which direction to take next, what options are available to you (that could be further study, getting a graduate-level job, starting your own business/freelancing, or something else entirely), and where to find suitable opportunities. They can also help with practical advice about application forms, CVs and covering letters, and help you prepare for job assessments, interviews and much more. Meetings are available both in-person at a Careers Zone or virtually via Teams.

Start-Up Support for LJMU Alumni

Are you curious to find out more about starting up your own business? Do you want to be self-employed, work as a freelancer or co-found a business? Perhaps you have an idea that you want to explore – or maybe you're ready to launch your venture right now?

As LJMU alumni, you can access our start-up support for five years after completing your studies.

Whatever stage of the process you are at, support is available at LJMU to help you get up and running.

From architects to app developers, coders to craft bakers, drone operators to dance companies, gamers to graphic designers, script writers to sports nutritionists, let the LJMU Start-up Hub help you on your start-up journey! We offer:

  • practical workshops, webinars and Start-up sprints
  • expert advice and coaching
  • meetups and networking opportunities

Our experienced and well-connected team can help you validate your idea, understand your customer base and connect you to the local start-up eco system.

LCR Founders

LCR Founders is a collaborative programme between LJMU and University of Liverpool, giving students, graduates and alumni the opportunity to explore co-founding as a viable and scalable approach to business start-up.

Participants will have exclusive access to:

  • at least 12 hours of enterprise skill building and 1:1 coaching
  • exciting opportunities to work with some of the city’s leading established co-founded businesses
  • residential start-up weekends / founder festivals / idea jams / Inspirational speaker events and unique networking opportunities all Powered by Founders
  • free membership to our exclusive online community platform, including a FREE license to Sim Ventures Validate – exciting new business building software
  • access to substantially discounted registered office / co-working spaces in some of the cities greatest buildings
  • expert support and the opportunity to pitch for one of only 40 Bathgate start-up grants - up to £2000

LJMU Graduate Futures

We have a limited number of places available for 2020, 2021 and 2022 graduates on our fully-funded, 12-month graduate placements, part of the ESF-funded LJMU Graduate Futures programme. Webinars, start-up sessions, employer events and virtual recruitment fairs

We run a regular programme of careers and employability webinars designed to help you to maximize your skills and help you negotiate your next steps. Topics include: crafting a CV with impact, telephone and video interviews, constructing a standout application, maximising LinkedIn for your career, and more. Alongside this we regularly invite employers and recruiters to speak to students via our ‘Be Inspired’ and ‘Virtual Careers Zone: Meet the Employer’ online sessions. We also be host regular (virtual) recruitment fairs during the academic year where you can speak to a host of recruiters across a range of sectors about their graduate opportunities. You can also attend Digital Incubation Hub events, including Google Digital Garage and Natwest Business Builder events, or attend one of our regular Start-Up Schools.

LJMU Alumni can still access our online digital careers tools and jobs board for life after you have graduated. If you didn't change your account over from a student account to an alumni account before you graduated, email your full name, the programme you studied at LJMU, year of graduation and personal email address to studentfutures@ljmu.ac.uk and we will set up a new account for you. Once you receive confirmation of your new account, log in below.

Further support - 'Your Next Steps' website for graduating student and recent graduates

If you are graduating this year or you are a recent LJMU graduate, you can visit our 'Your Next Steps' website. As well as featuring information about accessing careers, employability and enterprise support, the website also contains information about postgraduate study, how to join our Alumni community and support available from the LJMU Student Advice and Wellbeing team, including practical advice about money, international student support and help if you don't get the right results.

Graduate Outcomes

Graduate Outcomes is a national survey which gathers information about the activities and viewpoints of graduates 15 months after they’ve finished their studies.

As an LJMU graduate, your response to this survey is very important as it will:

  • provide future students with insight into their potential career destinations
  • enable our Careers Team to offer tailored careers advice which you can continue to access for life as a LJMU graduate
  • provide higher education institutions, policy makers, researchers and others with data, to understand current trends within the graduate jobs market
  • contribute to the University’s positioning in league tables

All graduates will be asked to complete the Graduate Outcomes survey.

Graduate Outcomes has replaced the previous Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey (DLHE).

Who runs the survey?

The Graduate Outcomes survey is a statutory process for all higher education providers and is coordinated by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

The operations and data collection element of the Graduate Outcomes survey will be undertaken by a third-party survey contractor who will work in collaboration with HESA, Funding Bodies and UK Higher Education Providers.

What do I need to do?

Whilst you are a student and after you leave University ensure you keep your contact details up to date via LJMU Connect.

LJMU will also be in contact with you (via email and telephone) after you graduate to ensure we have the most up to date contact information for you.

When will I be contacted?

All leavers will be contacted approximately 15 months after completing their course.
