Black History Month
In 2024-25, Student Futures worked with our Black History Month (BHM) Co-Creation Interns to deliver a vibrant and ambitious programme celebrating Black and ethnically diverse student voices.
Our interns played a central role in leading and creating content across multiple platforms, including a live BBC Radio Merseyside show and 10 student-produced podcasts, showcasing their experiences, reflections, and insights.
The Co-Creation Interns - Raghad, Joy, Nail and Ali - contributed to two university-wide LJMU focus groups, helping gather data and perspectives from ethnically diverse students to inform future programmes and promote inclusion. In addition, the interns participated in the Next Gen Talent Experience, engaged in Liverpool City Region leadership forums and meetings, and gained exposure to professional networks across the region.
Throughout the year, Student Futures provided tailored mentoring to support the interns’ personal and professional growth, helping them to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and gain experience in project design, event delivery, and media production.
Black History Month podcasts
In October 2025, we launched the co-created BHM podcasts to continue our work in the EDI space.
In the 2025/26 academic year, we are also co-delivering the Black Student Leadership Academy with the Student Life and Wellbeing Service (SLW), and we aim to involve more students and collaborate with LJMU colleagues.
This includes the Student Life and Wellbeing Service, to deliver programmes that further support ethnically diverse students and foster inclusive practice.
Raise Up Summit
In October 2025 our 4 interns gave a talk at the Raise Up Summit at BOXPARK in Liverpool to talk about their internship experience and the difference it has made. The summit focused on bringing employers and young people together to promote social mobility. It featured some of the UK’s top social mobility leaders from business, government and the public sector where they discussed how social mobility is not just an ethical imperative for business but an opportunity for inclusive growth.
