International Women in Engineering Day takes place annually on the 23 June and this year’s theme is #TransformTheFuture. It is also the 100th year of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), so there is even more reason to celebrate!
Women are still hugely underrepresented in engineering, making up less than 11% of the sector and only 15% of engineering and technology graduates. Research shows that more diverse teams create better solutions; more diversity equals more creativity. We deserve to have the female perspective when solving the world’s biggest challenges.
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology will be celebrating as part of the Open Day on Friday 21 June. We will have a stand in James Parsons Building at our Byrom Street Campus where we will have some of our outstanding female engineering alumni and current students to talk all things engineering with visitors. We will be asking visitors to contribute to our engineering wall and asking ‘why do you love engineering?’.
We’ll also have plenty of our Celebrating Women in Engineering and Technology badges and lolly pops to get your hands on.
