On 29th March 2024, Netflix released a film inspired by the Homeless World Cup entitled ‘The Beautiful Game’.

The Homeless World Cup is an annual international football tournament which engages more than 500 people experiencing homelessness, with representation from over 50 countries. Teams participate in a week-long 4-a-side football tournament adopting principles of Street Soccer to simulate the soccer played on the streets across the world.

In celebration of the release of this film, and our research and collaboration with local and national homeless football organisations, we are pleased to invite you to our free upcoming event, where attendees will hear accounts of players’ involvement in the Homeless World Cup.

12.15-13.00 Lunch & Conversation: Enjoy a light lunch and refreshments & connect with fellow attendees.

13:00-14:15 Welcome and Introduction: Hear about the mission of the Homeless World Cup and the transformative power of football in changing lives.

Research Insights: Dr Kathryn Curran (LJMU) & Emily Whyte (GCU) will share findings from research with Team England players. This research engaged players over a 3-year period in order to understand the perceived short and long-term influence of participation in the Homeless World Cup tournament and a personal development training programme.

Stories from the Field: Hear a first-hand account from an individual who has participated in the Homeless World Cup & from the CEO of Liverpool Homeless Football Club who has supported many players through their journey to the Homeless World Cup, and back again.
