The event takes place 30 March 2016.
It is our pleasure to invite you to the 2016 BASES Biomechanics Interest Group (BIG) meeting of the BASES (British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences) Division of Biomechanics and Motor Behaviour. This year the event is hosted by the Biomechanics Research Group in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University.
Wednesday 30 March, 2016
James Parsons Lower Lecture Theatre
Byrom Street Campus, L3 3AF
9:30am - 4:00pm
There is no cost to attend this meeting but registration is still required. The aim of the meeting is to allow staff and research students with an interest in sport and exercise biomechanics to network and present their research to interested biomechanists from the UK.
Programme and satellite events

Confirmed satellite events are listed below for which separate registration is required.
Professor Richard Jones (Salford University) will give this years’ keynote lecture titled “The use of clinical biomechanics in knee injury and future degenerative disease”. As a Professor of Clinical Biomechanics, Richard Jones leads the Knee Injury and Biomechanics Research programme at the University of Salford. This programme links sporting injuries and their future risk for joint degeneration. Richard founded the Salford Gait Laboratory and is currently the Biomechanics Research lead and the new Manchester Institute for Health and Performance. Travel and car parking
Please see directions to the Byrom Street (City) Campus. The nearest train station is Liverpool Lime Street which is a 7 minute walk from the City Campus. Unfortunately there is no car parking on site, however there are a number of pay and display car parks within 5 minutes walk. Take a look at the map of local car parks.
There are many hotels in the city centre (5-15 minutes walk) which cater for every need and budget. The postcode for the City Campus is L3 3AF. The closest hotels are the Liverpool Marriott Hotel City Centre, the Travelodge Liverpool Central, and the Premier Inn Liverpool City Centre (Moorfields) all of which are 5 minutes walk. If you are a Beatles fan then there’s the Hard Days Night Hotel right next to Matthew Street and the Cavern Club. If you want to be situated around the dock area, which has great views of landmark Liverpool buildings and many nice restaurants (a 15 min walk to the campus), then there is still a great variety of hotels including YHA Liverpool, Holiday Inn Express Liverpool Albert Dock, Jurys Inn Liverpool, and Hilton Liverpool.
If you are arriving on the 29 March, you may wish to consider the Liverpool Waterfront Cultural Walking Tour, which is a fascinating two-hour guided walking tour exploring Liverpool’s maritime history, looking at its development as a port from the 18th to the 21st century. This is offered courtesy of Liverpool Destination Services and Cultural Destinations Liverpool. The meeting time is 16.50pm, view this website for full details and booking information. If you wish to socialise on Tuesday evening, there is no formal agenda but we would suggest meeting at the Bierkeller (6 Thomas Steers Way, Liverpool One, L1 8LW – opposite the Hilton) from 7pm. If you plan to stay a bit longer then check out Visit Liverpool to see what is going on in the city.
If you have any general enquiries about the event, please get in touch.
