Seven ways to show Respect Always at LJMU

What is Respect Always?

At LJMU, above all else, we want everyone who studies here, works here and works with us, to feel respected, and to respect others.

That’s why back in 2018 we created the Respect Always charter as a way to support and reassure all our students, staff and wider community that we recognise the importance of showing respect and being respected.

So what does Respect Always mean?

Our university has a proud history of being inclusive and making everyone connected to LJMU feel welcome, comfortable and accepted; whether they are studying here, working here or partnering with us. Respect, Always is about ensuring we maintain and develop this approach across all areas of university life.

Seven guiding principles of Respect Always

To emphasise its importance LJMU has seven simple guiding principles of Respect Always:

  • Respect Always is being kind in your words and actions

  • Respect Always is embracing diversity and nurturing our inclusive community

  • Respect Always is recognising that everyone has a voice and feels able to use it

  • Respect Always is being accountable for your behaviour

  • Respect Always is irrespective of hierarchy

  • Respect Always is being courageous and calling out inappropriate behaviours

  • Respect Always is of equal importance in both physical and virtual environments

These principles have been developed to endorse and enhance our LJMU Values (Courageous, Student-focused, Inclusive and caring about our Community.)

You can find out more about Respect Always and the Respect Always Charter on the LJMU website.

Report + Support: report an incident

LJMU takes all levels of disrespect seriously and has a specific Report and Support Platform for students, staff and visitors to report incidents and get support.

Report and Support is LJMU’s harassment and sexual misconduct reporting platform and users can either ‘Report and Get Support’ or ‘Report Anonymously.’

The platform also outlines further information and support regarding assault, bullying, discrimination, domestic abuse and ‘honour’ based abuse, harassment and stalking, hate crime, sexual violence and assault and spiking.

Report an incident through the LJMU Report and Support tool.
