Check your funding application if you changed university to LJMU
New students joining us in September 2025, if you originally planned to attend a different university and had already applied for your funding, you will need to make sure your funding body knows you’re now coming to LJMU to avoid any delay in receiving your finance.
Change your application online
It is easy to do this online and you have until Friday 12 September 2025 to do this.
- Log in to your Student Finance account
- Select the relevant application that you want to change
- Select ‘View and manage your applications’ under ‘Manage you student finance’
- Select ‘Expand’ on the application you wish to change
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select ‘Change your application’
- Then choose the option to change your 'University/college and course' and follow the remaining instruction to submit your changes
A video how to guide has been produced by Student Finance England to help you make changes to your application.
You can find further guidance for making changes to your student finance application on the Student Finance website.
How to change after the September deadline
If you miss the September deadline, please don’t worry, you just need to follow an alternative process to ensure you get your funding.
- Contact the original university and ask to be released for funding purposes.
- Email LJMU Student Administration (from a non LJMU email address) and state: “I am attending LJMU in the 25/26 academic year but I have a different university on my funding application. I need LJMU to send a change of circumstances on my behalf to the Student Loans Company (SLC) as soon as possible please.”
- LJMU will contact the SLC to make that change, but this can take up to 40 working days.
If this has not been resolved before you arrive at LJMU, contact the Money Advice team email or book in to see a Student Money Advisor to access support.
Your accommodation provider will direct you to the LJMU Student Money Advice team if there will be any delay with paying your first rent instalment.
It’s important that you have sufficient funds to live on from when you arrive in Liverpool until when you expect your student funding to be paid into your bank account.
