10 places to get your festive food and drink fix
‘Tis the season to feel full up.

With the Christmas celebrations in full swing, there’s nothing better than exploring the gastronomical delights of our city – and there's a lot of them! Here’s a rundown of our festive favourites…
1. The traditional Christmas dinner
You simply can’t beat a good old roast dinner and the countdown to Christmas Day is the perfect time to warm up for the main event. You’re truly spoilt for choice when it comes to the traditional festive menus in Liverpool and some of our favourite spots include: Alberts Schenke, where you’ll find the perfect pigs in blankets; Dockleaf, where the cauliflower cheese is unbeatable; and Ma Boyle’s, where the classic turkey tastes like Christmas on a plate.
2. Baltic Market pop-ups
The Baltic Market rarely do things by halves and their Christmas celebrations are no exception. Decked from top to bottom in Christmas cheer, their huge warehouse is packed with restaurant pop-ups from all over the city serving up festive grub, Christmas cocktails, and even hosting events such as their Christmas Farmers Market. This is a festive stop off not to be missed.
3. Punk Afternoon Tea
The Baltic Social has long been serving up their delicious twist on this quintessential English classic and this Christmas they’ve given their Punk Afternoon Tea a festive makeover. Take your pick from the likes of stuffed turkey and crispy kale sliders, pigs in blankets, crispy truffle fries, a festive cheeseboard, Christmas cookie sandwiches with spiced buttercream – the list goes on and on!
4. Warming mulled wine
Nothing says Christmas quite like a piping hot mug of mulled wine or cider and the Kazimier Garden are the experts when it comes to spiced winter tipples. You may be sitting outside, but you’ll soon forget about the cold as you cosy up in front of one of their crackling fire pits and sip on your festive brew.
5. Wrap up Christmas
Get yourself down to St George’s Hall Plateau where you’ll find the Liverpool Christmas Markets. Their festive food offering includes a traditional Bavarian Grill as well as their famous Yorkshire Pudding Wrap stall. Here you can grab a delicious Christmas dinner to-go that’s smothered in gravy and wrapped up in a giant Yorkshire pud. What more could you want this Christmas?!
6. Santa’s Ghetto Burgers
Yes, you read that right. Only Almost Famous could make burgers festive. Their December menu is packed full of your favourite junk food with a Christmas twist – including their festive Ghetto Burger, the John Candy Burger (which comes topped off with a real candy cane), as well as their extravagant take on pigs in blankets that must be tasted to be believed.
7. A veggie feast
Christmas is not just a time for turkey so if you’re on the hunt for a festive vegetarian or vegan menu then look no further than Veggie Republic. Take your pick from delicious braised ‘beef’ seitan, traditional ‘turkey’ seitan with sage or their gluten-free nut roast with all of the trimmings.
8. A slice (or 10) of festive pizza
If you feel a little like you’re cheating on pizza with roast turkey this season, there is a compromise. Introducing the 18-inch Crustmas pizza from Santa Maluco. Its festive toppings include turkey, stuffing and honey-glazed pigs in blankets – all topped off with a sweet cranberry sauce drizzle.
9. Mince pies and Christmas cocktails
Imagine a place that serves up a plethora of festive cocktails and snacks, where you can snuggle into comfy armchairs and watch a Christmas film as you munch on a mince pie or turkey sandwich. Welcome to Miracle on Seel Street. We suggest you get yourself down here soon for the ultimate Christmas snacking experience before it disappears until next December…
10. The ultimate hot chocolate
For a long time, American style cafe Barley and Beans have proudly upheld their reputation for serving some of the most extravagant milkshakes and hot chocolates in the city. If you're heading down there this Christmas, be sure to order one of their Toblerone loaded hot chocolates. You can thank us later!
So there you have it – our festive food odyssey. We think there’s plenty of choice to keep you going throughout December, just don’t forget to save room for the big day! Those selection boxes won’t eat themselves after all…
