Biography

Anne-Marie has over 15 years’ industry experience in Graphic Design, Illustration and New Product Development. Her portfolio includes clients ranging from the National Army Museum, London, to the Arctic Monkeys. As Lecturer on the BA Graphic Design and Illustration programme at Liverpool School of Art and Design, Anne-Marie currently teaches Level 4-6 students with a specialism in Graphic Design and Graphic Arts Research. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she continually strives to further enhance and develop her teaching practice.

Anne-Marie is a fully qualified teacher of Graphics and Product Design, having graduated with a PGCE in Design and Technology from the University of Cambridge in 2009. Later that year, Anne-Marie was awarded an MA in Design Studies (Applied Imagination) from Central St Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, London. Anne-Marie's previous teaching at HE and FE level includes her work as MA Creative Practice Tutor at Leeds College of Art, 2016-2017, and teaching on the Product Design BSc programme at the University of Leeds, 2011-2017.

Anne-Marie’s research interests include participatory research and inclusive design. Her work focuses on accessibility and the potential for graphic design to bring about social change. Earlier this year, Anne-Marie graduated with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds. Through her PhD research, she investigated the role of the designer in the facilitation of meaningful play between disabled and non-disabled children. This research project was an interdisciplinary collaboration between colleagues from the fields of Sociology, Design and Mechanical Engineering.

Her current research at the Lab4Living, Sheffield Hallam University, examines the role of design in Evidence Based Transformation (EBT) within the NHS. It looks at ways in which knowledge is disseminated within, and between, elderly medical wards, in order to ensure the delivery of safe, patient-focused care. Anne-Marie has presented her research at conferences of international standing including the Interaction Design and Children (IDC) conference, Bremen, 2012, The Cambridge Workshop on Universal and Assistive Technology (CWUAAT), 2014, and the Design Management Institute (DMI) conference, London College of Fashion, 2014.
