After graduating Alex worked for seven years in professional theatre in UK repertories and on national tours as a stage manager, joining the BBC in 1985 as a Floor Manager. For the next twelve years, she had extensive experience in a wide range of production roles in network television, working as a writer and presenter, researcher, director and associate producer on fiction, factual and entertainment programmes.
Whilst at the BBC, Alex undertook a four-week multi-camera director’s training course at BBC Elstree and spent many years directing live studio network programmes. Most of her professional career has been at the BBC, although she has experience of working in the independent television sector, principally for Granada Television, but also at smaller, independent production companies.
Alex joined JMU in 1998 and has continued to undertake freelance production work when possible. Alex has professional teaching qualifications and is a law graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University.
