David Selfe is the Director of the School of Law at LJMU. His main teaching and writing is in the area of Criminal Law, with particular focus on sexual offences law and policy. He is the Module Leader for the popular Level 6 Option Module Sex, Crime and Society, which is taught across 4 undergraduate programmes. He is a Dissertation supervisor on LLB, MA CJ and LLM QL programmes, and contributes specialist topics in Foundations and Property Offences.
David chairs the Law School Management Team, and is a member of the Faculty Management Team. He has a wide experience of, and involvement in, a range of University governance processes: he has been Chair of the Academic Framework Management Group, and the Assessment Regulations Working Group; he is co-Chair of the University Academic Appeals Panel, and a member/co-Chair of the University Criminal Convictions Panel. He has extensive experience (as Investigating Officer, Presenting Officer and Hearing Chair) in student and staff disciplinary, grievance and complaint processes.
David has been an External Examiner continuously since 1995, and is currently an External Examiner at Roehampton University, London and The Open University. He has wide experience of external validation and review events, including previously being a member of the JASB. He has been a member of the Committee of Heads of University Law Schools since 2011.
