After graduating Claire worked as a Public Health Nutritionist for the NHS and SureStart co-ordinating numerous nutrition projects. Her Little Roots Children’s Community Allotment Project won local awards and was nominated for a Department of Health: Health and Social Care Award 2006.
Claire has worked in a number of public health settings as a provider and commissioner of obesity services at local level, to policy development and peer challenge work at regional and national level for the Department of Health.
Claire is currently lead for level 6 Professional Practice in Food and Nutrition module. She is particularly keen to support development of employability skills, business engagement and project management through her strong links with the industry partners and employers. Her expertise and interests are in childhood obesity, policy, community development, building capacity and social marketing.
Her freelance work has involved collaborations with SMA Nutrition, Nottinghamshire Police Force and Asda. She has a strong network of relationships both nationally and internationally including links to Public Health England, Department of Health, Children’s Food Trust, Sainsburys, Nestle, PepsiCo, MEND.
Claire is an active representative of academia and public sector with Public Health England and was a member of the joint working group British Dietetic Association/Nutrition Society to develop a public health nutrition career framework. She is also an assessor for the UK Voluntary Register for Nutritionists and the UK Public Health Practitioner Register.
