Dr Jiangtao Du

Biography

In October 2016, I joined the School of Built Environment of LJMU as a Senior Lecturer of Building Environmental Design. Before coming to LJMU, I held a Lecturer position (2014-2016) in Architectural Sustainable Design in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of Bath, and a postdoctoral researcher and course lecturer position (2011-2013) in the Division of Energy and Building Design at Lund University in Sweden. I received my PhD degree in Architecture (Building Science) from the Sheffield School of Architecture (2011, University of Sheffield).

My design practice experiences include: lighting design (natural and artificial); passive building design; solar city planning; environmental-friendly urban design.

I am currently a Chartered Engineer and a professional member of the following:
• Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)
• Society of Light and Lighting (SLL)
• International Solar Energy Society (ISES)
• International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA)
• Society of Building Science Educator (SBSE).
• International Dark-sky Association (IDA).

My research interest focuses on lighting design, both in building and urban scale. The main topics include:
• Daylighting in buildings and urban areas.
• Light pollution and environmental conservation.
• Visual and non-visual effect of light.
• Lighting and human health and well-being.
• Energy-efficient lighting system (indoor and outdoor).
I am also interested in other topics including climate-smart building facade, smart city design and planning, low carbon building design, solar energy (building and urban scale), and building energy and environment design tools.

During the past 5 years, I have been involved in several research projects as a co-investigator:
