Adam Papworth is a Principal Lecturer of Engineering and Product Design in the School of Maritime and Mechanical Engineering. Beyond his teaching role he has the responsibility of managing the BSc. (Hons) in Product Design Engineering. He also has key responsibilities for managing and developing the industrial links and work placement provision of this programme.
Having been actively involved in Engineering, Design and Manufacturing professionally for 34 years, Adam’s approach is best described as “passionate”. The diversity of experience and knowledge gained whilst working in number of OEM’s in the defence and power generation industries alongside a range of SME’s across a myriad of business sectors have enabled his work to bridge a number of specific disciplines, all of which are regarded as being an integral part of Product Design. These embrace mechanical engineering and design, material selection, production technology and manufacturing. Adam’s rich and eclectic knowledge and experience is shared with his students.
Adam currently teaches creative and critical thinking techniques, design research skills, materials, design for manufacture and sustainable design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His current research interests focus on the role of creativity as a critical element of design pedagogy.
