British Council Researcher Link Workshop:"Managing complex social housing urban redevelopment through improved project management & value generation", Porto Alegre, Brazil, The Newton Fund Researcher Links Workshop was held in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil from 16th to 20th May 2016.This workshop provided an opportunity to get together Brazilian and UK early career researchers to build capacity, contributing to innovative research on the issues of “managing complex social housing urban redevelopment through improved project management and value generation”. The workshop assisted to stimulate long-term collaboration to tackle this critical challenge by sharing results of previous studies and devising a research roadmap. The workshop was mainly focused on the complexity of social urban redevelopment programmes and social housing provision. A research roadmap for the management of complex urban redevelopment programmes and for the evaluation of social housing projects was developed, setting out the major challenges and opportunities for improvement and better value creation for users. This included the needs of target communities, which today live in conditions below minimum standards. Also, the need for a framework to support the integration of programmes that are fragmented into different projects was discussed, including the considerations of how tools such as Building Information Modelling could be support for the visualisation of complex urban level data.. 2016

This workshop provided a unique opportunity to researchers from the UK and Morocco for sharing research expertise and networking. During the workshops, the researchers had the opportunity to present their research findings in the form of oral presentation and discussed this with established researchers from the UK and Morocco. The aim of the workshop was to focus on building up links for future collaborations and participants amongst the selected researchers on the basis of their research potential and ability to build longer term links.. 2015
