Dr Mark Pogson

School of Computer Science and Mathematics

I joined Liverpool John Moores University in 2016 as a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics. My current teaching responsibilities are Level 4 Modelling, Level 6 Advanced Calculus and Level 6 project supervision. I previously worked as a lecturer at the University of Bolton (2013-2016), where I taught in Mathematics and Biomedical Engineering. I have a PGCert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I have a range of research interests. For my PhD I modelled a biochemical signalling pathway involved with immune responses. Following this I worked as a researcher in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sheffield (2007-2010), where I modelled scattering of sound to improve room acoustics. I then worked as a researcher in the Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Aberdeen (2010-2013), where I modelled energy crop yields and the effects of land-use change on greenhouse gas emissions from soil. I continue to perform a variety of research, with a particular interest in modelling biology.
