Lorraine Shaw has been the Subject Lead for Nursing in the School of Nursing and Allied Health since 2013. Lorraine is academic lead for a range of programmes, including pre-registration nursing, Adult, Child and Mental Health, Specialist Community Practitioners, Assistant Practitioners, and Advanced Practice. She also oversees a suite of Continuing Professional Development modules. Lorraine has held academic management positions at LJMU since 2007, and has extensive experience of curriculum development.
Lorraine has been a registered nurse since 1987. She maintains clinical practice with the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital Trust. Previously, before moving into education at LJMU in 1998, Lorraine practiced in a range of clinical areas: general medicine, palliative care, haematology oncology, and accident and emergency.
Lorraine is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has taught a variety of topics. These include public health, nursing practice, moral philosophy, ethics in healthcare, medical law and professional accountability. Lorraine has undertaken research into the student’s experience of teaching and has published on this. Lorraine has collaborated on a variety of qualitative research projects, most recently the European Later Life Active Network, and research into student’s experience of raising concerns in clinical practice.
