Dr Jennifer Germain

Jen joined the Public Health Institute (PHI); previously Centre for Public Health) in 2009. She is the project lead for the Trauma and Injury Intelligence Group (TIIG) which is part of the Public Health Intelligence Unit (PHIU), managing intentional and unintentional injury and violence data. She works to support partners (including, community safety partnerships, police, health services, local authorities and Violence Reduction Units (VRUs)) across England and Wales in their violence prevention work. Jen has worked on a number of research projects including evaluations of weight loss programs, an end of life care pathway and the roles of breast care nurses and domiciliary community matrons. She has also worked on projects looking at the uptake of Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PREP), and online sourcing of opioid drugs. Jen is co-module lead for the level 6 dissertation module and supervises student projects at BSc, MSc and PhD level. She is a member of the LJMU Research Ethics Committee and co-editor of the Public Health Institute Journal (PHIJ)

Jen completed her PhD in 2018 under the supervision of Professor Jim McVeigh, Dr Conan Leavey and Professor Marie Claire Van Hout. Her PhD explored the use of unlicensed weight loss drugs in women.
