Primary Education applicants

Congratulations if you've been invited to an interview for the BA (Hons) Primary Education with recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) course. All the information you'll need to prepare for your interview is provided below.

It is essential you read this document prior to interview to ensure you prepare any necessary materials to bring with you and to ensure that you are aware what is expected of you on the day.

Parking facilities are not available onsite therefore we advise applicants travelling to IM Marsh to use public transport wherever possible as the site is based within a residential area with restricted parking permits on local streets.

You should report to the main reception in the Barkhill Building (at the IM Marsh Campus) on arrival. Please arrive promptly for a 9:00am start; the day will finish at 15:30pm depending on the schedule. Refreshments will be available from the cafeteria (‘Meeting place’) at a small cost. The day is planned to allow you the opportunity to have a tour of the campus, meet staff and students and learn as much as you can about the programme.

Skills test:

If you have not already done so you must now register for the skills tests. You must pass the numeracy and literacy skills test BEFORE attending your interview or confirmation that you have booked your test. You will be required to bring proof of this on the day.

Interview day checklist:

  1. Reply on UCAS Track to your interview invitation. Please confirm your attendance as soon as possible before your interview day by replying to your interview decision notification direct via UCAS. If we do not receive a reply by one week prior to the interview we will assume you are not attending and you will not be catered for should you attend. If you find at any point you are no longer able to attend please inform us as soon as possible
  2. Read the complete interview booklet
  3. Make sure you know how to get to the interview
  4. Bring with you your GCSE certificates (mathematics, science and English language)
  5. Bring proof that you have booked your literacy and numeracy skills tests


Can I ask for an alternative interview date?

Alternative interview dates are not usually possible. To help allocate dates please make sure any unavailable dates/periods are stated on your UCAS application at the point of application.

What is ‘Fitness to Teach’?

Please note all applicants need to satisfy the Government requirements for ‘Fitness to Teach’. If you are in any doubt of about your physical fitness to teach you should visit the Department for Education's website which will enable you to self assess yourself and ensure that you are able to teach under the DfCSF recommendations.

Where can I find out about funding?

Students are strongly advised to apply for their student funding as soon as possible.
