Find your place in English and Creative Writing

Broaden your literary horizons

Highly-regarded for developing creative skills, English and Creative Writing programmes at LJMU encourage students to collaborate on ideas and projects, including extra-curricular events such as open mic nights, charity events and research collaborations.

Many tutors are authors who work with the media and have published work commercially to critical acclaim, including English tutor and British TV culture expert Joe Moran who regularly writes for the Guardian, and Creative Writing poetry tutor Andrew McMillan, the first poet to win the coveted Guardian First Book Award for his debut collection Physical.

Skills developed are put into practice in summer internships and work abroad modules: many students take the opportunity to do internships in the USA, and past internships have included working for American Vogue and Yellowstone National Park.
