Family Accommodation

Accommodation suitable for students with families is not provided by LJMU.

This is the case with most universities in the UK.

The rooms which we provide in our partner halls are only available to full-time students. They are not available to the partners or children of students.

We are unable to assist incoming students looking for family accommodation. The information below will prove useful.

Plan Ahead

Various types of accommodation exist in Liverpool and average prices are low by national standards.

It can take several days, sometimes weeks, for students to secure family accommodation.

If you are thinking of bringing your partner, family or any dependants with you to the UK, you should come by yourself first.

We advise that you book temporary accommodation for at least one week while you look for a family home.

Once you have found and confirmed your longer-term accommodation, you can move into it and plan for your family to join you.

If you must arrive with your partner, family and/or dependents, you should bring enough funding to cover the cost of temporary family accommodation for at least one week. This can be as much as £150 per night for a family of four.

Options

We do not offer rooms in our partner halls on a short-term basis. Students who intend to come by themselves will need to book a hotel or hostel, or find accommodation via websites such as Airbnb.

For example, The Selina Hostel is excellent value, secure and well located in the city-centre.

Please note
Hotels and hostels are usually very busy when Liverpool FC have home games - which usually take place from mid-August to mid-September.

The best websites to search for family accommodation in the UK are Rightmove and Zoopla.

Liverpool is a small city and it may not be possible to find something within your budget in the city-centre. Surrounding areas, such as Bootle, Wirral and St Helens, may have more availability at better prices, while still being within easy reach of your teaching building by public transport.

Please note
If you do plan to book your family home from outside the UK, do not send any payment in advance of your arrival, especially if you have found the accommodation on a website not listed on this page.
