Research Stars of 2021

The winners of this year’s Excellence in Research and Knowledge Exchange Awards were made at the annual conference on December 8

Vice-Chancellor Mark Power presented awards for pioneering work in Public Health, Social Justice, Sustainability and other disciplines supporting our community, economy and our students.

  • Professor Zaili Yang (Engineering), Winner of the VC’s Excellence in Research Award for pioneering maritime safety

  • Professor Zara Quigg (Public Health Institute) won the Knowledge Exchange Award for her work in violence reduction

  • Dr Ana Armada Bras (Civil Engineering & Built Environment) is winner of the Sustainability Award for pioneering self-healing construction materials

  • Dr Patricia Jolliffe and Dr Helen Collins (Business School) won the Excellence in Promotion of Equality and Diversity with their project to aid employability in Liverpool’s Roma community

  • Dr Amanda Atkinson (Public Health Institute) is the 2021 ‘Rising Star’ for her research on youth drinking cultures

  • Dr Michelle McManus (Justice Studies) and Dr Sarah Schiffling (Business School) were joint winners of the Excellence in Response to COVID-19 Award for their work in domestic abuse and supply chain management respectively

  • Library Services won the Excellence in RKE Support award for their work on the REF submission (Maria Follett, Cath Dishman, Katherine Stephan and Mel Stubbs)

  • Professor Keith George, PVC Research, who opened and closed the conference
