Making the most of your time at LJMU

When you arrive at LJMU for the start of your course, it may feel like you have all the time in the world until the end of the academic year, but then before you know it, it’s over! In our surveys and focus groups with international students and graduates, ‘I wish I had known earlier that…’ is a regular theme, from not knowing about support with academic writing to not understanding UK recruitment processes and application deadlines. Our student timelines suggest handy actions for key times in the academic year to help you:

  • settle in and feel part of the LJMU community
  • understand support available from Student Futures and other teams in LJMU
  • secure part-time work
  • be aware of important graduate scheme deadlines

Knowing what to focus on when can help your planning and maximise your time at LJMU from the first year of your undergraduate degree or right from the start of your Masters. The timelines provided include tips for each month, but they are not a definitive to-do list you need to tick off – every student is unique, so focus on what’s relevant and right for you and your situation.

Alongside the timelines, always read your LJMU student newsletter to ensure you’ll hear the latest about university news and events, and also check the events pages of Student Futures, JMSU and LJMU (filter by calendars) for up-to-date information about what’s coming up.
