IM Marsh Campus

Travelling to and from the IM Marsh Campus

We have produced a specific travel guide for students travelling to and from the IM Marsh Campus.

IM Marsh is well served with cycling storage spaces, equipment lockers and changing facilities on site. The campus also benefits from a dedicated University Cycle Route which offers cyclists a less congested route to and from the city centre. This route takes around 25 minutes to cycle.

Citybike Liverpool also has bikes for hire at the campus on Barkhill Road and at Aigburth Station. They are also offering LJMU students a 50% discount on their annual membership fee, reducing it to just £25. For a full breakdown of the standard prices, including hourly rates, see the Citybike website.

The two closest train stations to IM Marsh are Aigburth Station (7 minute walk) and West Allerton Station (15 minute walk). These stations are well served by train lines from the wider Merseyside/North West region (Southport, Warrington, Wirral, Runcorn, Blackpool and Chester). If you are travelling to the campus from further afield, TransPennine Express operates an hourly Manchester to Liverpool train which takes 32 minutes. Merseyrail and Northern Rail offer a selection of single, return and monthly passes. For up-to-date details on timetables, fares and routes, go to:

16-25 Railcard: If you are studying full-time at LJMU, are aged 25 or under and travel to the campus from outside Liverpool, it might be worth investing in a 16-25 National Railcard. This offers 1/3 off all train fares over £12. For details visit the 16-25 Railcard website.

Stagecoach and Arriva buses to Aigburth run between Liverpool and Wavertree/Mossley Hill (699), Liverpool and Speke/Liverpool SouthParkway (82 or 82D), and Liverpool and Walton/Bootle (61). If you are travelling by bus from Liverpool city centre to IM Marsh, you will probably only need to get a ticket/ pass covering one zone (zone C1).

PlusBus: If you travel by train to get into Liverpool, depending on what pass you have it may be worthwhile to invest in the PlusBus ‘add on’.

IM Marsh Residents Parking Scheme

A Residents Parking Scheme is in operation around the IM Marsh campus. On-street parking is only permitted within the designated zone if you have a valid permit (no permits are available to LJMU staff or students). With the exception of parking spaces for disabled parking permit holders, there are no parking facilities for students at IM Marsh or the other LJMU campuses.

The Residents Parking Scheme is in operation between 9am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday, 1 September until 31 May. The IM Marsh Travel Guide includes details of all the roads affected by the scheme.
