FloodWay

A smarter approach to urban flooding

by Wisdom Elabor

Level 6 Product Design Engineering Student

Meet Wisdom Elabor, a final-year Product Design Engineering student whose personal experience with urban flooding sparked the inspiration for his end-of-year project: FloodWay, an innovative solution aimed at tackling infrastructure challenges in flood-prone areas.

Wisdom saw the need for a sustainable, efficient and scalable flood management system. With FloodWay, he brings forward a concept that integrates design thinking, civil engineering principles, and environmentally conscious materials to address one of the most pressing global issues facing urban environments today.

FloodWay proposes a modular flood diversion and drainage system that could be rapidly deployed in high-risk areas to mitigate water damage, improve drainage, and reduce the economic and environmental impact of floods.

Designed with low-resource settings in mind, the system is cost-effective, easy to install, and adaptable to different landscapes, making it especially relevant for developing cities or underserved communities.

Tune in to explore how Wisdom’s innovative vision could help reshape flood resilience strategies around the world, proving that lived experience can be a powerful driver of meaningful, impactful design.
