The Contemporary Art Lab's digital creative research relates to the relationship between technology and culture, as well as the way meaning unfolds through new computational forms.
The Institute of Art and Technology (IAT) has developed important interdisciplinary collaborations with major arts and cultural organisations, major science and technology organisations, public health organisations and academic institutions both nationally and internationally, leading to joint projects and impact.
Every year, researchers from ART LABS publish over 50 publications. Staff create publications within a number of key disciplines, including: contemporary art, 3D digital art, the uses of art and cultural enrichment, exhibitions and curatorship, as well as design discourse and practice.
Rooted in the history and radical mission of the Liverpool Mechanics’ School of Arts (1825) and the city of Liverpool’s industrial legacy, the Institute has emerged as a pioneer of creativity and innovation, grounded in a deep commitment to inclusion and diversity - values that both shaped its history and foreground its future-facing mission.
Members of staff from the Institute of Art and Technology are experts within the fields of art, design and technology.
