Platforms and apps to help your studies

Canvas

Canvas is our Virtual Learning Environment and it's where you will find lots of information relating to all the modules you will be studying, such as assignment support, lecture material, audio, video, links to web resources and online assessments. You can access Canvas via your internet browser or by downloading the Canvas app. More about Canvas on our Prepare for learning and studying page.

My LJMU

My LJMU is an app designed for our students to bring all the resources you need together in one place. Using My LJMU, you can request support, book tutorials and see your timetable. My LJMU can be downloaded from the Apple, Google or Android app store on your device. My LJMU can also be accessed on our website using the following link, My LJMU.

Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-Factor Authentication is required for your security and ours and is needed to access some of the applications you need whilst working off campus. At LJMU we use the Microsoft Authenticator app which is available in all app stores. Visit our Multi-Factor Authentication pages to learn more.

Free equipment and software

LJMU provides over 2000 PCs and loan laptops for students to use in our Libraries and IT Suites. To find an available PC, go to Free PC and see what's available near you.

Software

Most of the software you use while at university should be free to use on your home computer, laptop or tablet.

If you need to use specialist software for your course there’s a really good chance its available to you for free, find out more on our software for staff and students page.

Office 365 and Cloud storage

While you are student at LJMU you have a free license to install Microsoft Office 365 on up to five different devices whether it’s a PC, laptop, mobile or tablet. That’s the complete Microsoft Office 365 Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. As part of Office 365 you also have a free 1TB of cloud storage with Microsoft OneDrive.

Wi-Fi

All LJMU students have free Wi-Fi access on campus as well as in over 89 countries and millions of hotspots around the world.

Low cost services

Printing

IT Services recommend that you don’t buy your own printer. You can print at very low cost to any of our multifunction printers around the university from an LJMU PC in the library or a classroom, or from your personal laptop, PC, tablet or phone.

We also offer a wide range of bespoke printing services such as lamination, thesis or dissertation binding and much more.

All our printers have a scanning function where you can scan documents quickly and easily with OCR, multipage feed and more.
