Lifelong learning in healthcare
Developed in consultation with many different health and social care organisations, our CPD courses meet workforce needs.
Our teaching quality is consistently praised by independent, impartial inspectors and in Quality Monitoring Reports published by professional regulatory and statutory bodies, such as the Health and Care Professions Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council and the British Paramedic Association. The principles and values of the NHS constitution are embedded within relevant NHS care related courses.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the School of Nursing and Allied Health will:
- Equip you with the skills, confidence and competence demanded by the healthcare sector

- Meet the requirements of the healthcare agenda
- Provide flexible learning where you can study alongside your existing professional or personal commitments, either on standalone courses or part of an undergraduate or masters degree

Bespoke educating
With a sector that’s constantly facing new challenges, we work with many organisations and service providers so that we can respond to these challenges by offering appropriate, tailor-made programmes, workshops and short courses.
Some examples of the courses we can provide your organisation:
- Clinical examination
- Clinical diagnostics
- Clinical skills – venepuncture, cannulation, spirometry, continence management and tracheostomy care
- Electrocardiograph practice and interpretation
- Paediatric clinical examination

- Manual blood pressure recording and apex management for pharmacists
Specialist facilities
Our £1.6 million practice suites emulate a patient’s journey from the home environment through to rehabilitation, with the latest clinical equipment for simulations and clinical skills development in child, adult and mental health nursing plus paramedic practice, social work and midwifery.

How to apply
There are two application routes for CPD courses, depending on how your course will be funded.
- If the CPD course you are applying for is funded by Health Education North please apply through the CPD apply system. This is the only way to apply for funded CPD modules. Your learning development lead/educational lead can provide further advice on this process.
- If you are funding the course yourself or if the course is not available via CPD, you should apply via the LJMU online application form.
Funding
For NHS staff, some of the modules will be funded by Health Education North. Staff are advised to contact their learning development lead/educational lead
to discuss this further. Please contact your Line Manager or HR Department for details of your learning development lead/educational lead.
For staff from the independent sector, you can apply through through the CPD apply system. Approval is required from Health Education North.
For all other staff, please contact your line manager to find out if your organisation has funding available.
If funding is unavailable some CPDs may be self-funded. Course fees can be paid in instalments subject to prior agreement.
