First female US president?
As the world waits to see if Hillary Clinton will become the first female US president and interest in American politics heightens, Dr Matthew Hill has released a book to help navigate the US political system.
In American Politics for Dummies, LJMU’s Senior Lecturer in History outlines how the country came to be, including the construction of the constitution; the defining document for the American government.
The book, part of the highly successful 'For Dummies’ series, also explains how the government is structured at both the federal and state levels, as well as outlining how the founders of the US aimed to ensure they corrected what they saw as the wrongs of British rule in the early days of the colonies.
Dr Hill comments:
"Giving the people input into who runs their government is an essential part of American government, but it has become an incredibly complicated one as the country expanded and grew more diverse. The book gives details on how elections work, including the ways in which two major political parties have come to dominate the political process. It also shows the predictable ways in which people vote according to certain factors including their age and where they live."
Another interesting section in the book explains America’s special relationships with various countries, and the ways America sees and protects itself and how this has changed since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The 'For Dummies' series is an extensive series of reference books which are intended to be non-intimidating guides for readers new to the various topics covered and are written in an easily understood and accessible format. The series has been a worldwide success with editions in numerous languages.
American Politics for Dummies is available to buy on Amazon and from other book retailers.
