Directed Study Week is an exciting programme of workshops and webinars designed to help students study more effectively and get better results.

During Directed Study Week we offer sessions on essay writing, critical analysis and thinking, referencing skills, and may other topics that will help you succeed at LJMU. Directed Study Week has something for every LJMU student, be they undergraduate or postgraduate.

  • During the week, students can find out how to:
  • Learn to write with critical analysis
  • Develop your essay writing skills
  • Improve your research skills
  • Enhance your referencing skills
  • Get better IT skills
  • Design questionnaires
  • Develop  literature reviews
  • Solve difficult maths and stats problems
  • Plan your dissertation

Andrew Barker, Associate Director of Library Services, who is coordinating the programme, said: “Directed Study Week gives students the opportunity to work on the skills that underpin all programmes to ensure they achieve the best results possible.  We have evolved the programme this year to make it more focussed on academic skills, as these are the sessions that have been most utilised by students in the previous years.

"We would like to hear the thoughts of students and staff on Directed Study Week, so if you have any ideas of how it should develop in future, please contact us at directedstudyweek@ljmu.ac.uk.”
