Biography

My research focuses on the history of decolonisation (particularly in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia) and in international business history (particularly in ocean-going shipping). I am co-director of the Centre for Port and Maritime History, a joint enterprise between Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Liverpool and Merseyside Maritime Museum. With PNB Research Institute, I am currently writing the corporate biography of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (Malaysia's National Equity Corporation), and, with Prof. Shakila Yacob of Universiti Malaya, a complementary study of UK investment and Malaysia's New Economic Policy in the 1970s and 1980s.
