Thomas McCooey joined LJMU in 2022 and teaches in the journalism department, focussing on sports journalism.

He is NCTJ and NCE trained, and also has a BJTC-accredited MA in broadcast journalism from the University of Central Lancashire.

Before joining LJMU, he worked as a journalist with roles in news and sport at The Wigan Post and Wigan Observer, and has freelanced for national titles and trade magazines.

He also works as an occasional sub editor for Reach PLC on the sports pages of the Sunday Star and Sunday Express, and still writes for publications such as Classic Car Weekly and Forty-20 Magazine.

Thomas has previous broadcast experience, including as a production assistant at BBC Radio Lancashire, and has written two books on Wigan Warriors rugby league club. He is trained as a Mental Health First Aider.
