I am a post graduate researcher who specialises in alternative education. Over the past 15 years I have taught in a variety of alternative settings such as: emotional and behavioural specialist schools, prisons, youth offender sites, secure units, pupil referral units and local authority care homes. In addition to this, I also established an independent school for excluded young people in Liverpool north. My time as a teacher has exposed me to the many commonalities shared by those who attend alternative provisions and my research is focused on exploring these as well as the reasons behind initial disengagement from mainstream settings.
My current project aims to produce recommendations for those who work in alternative settings to support their students with not only educational attainments, but personal development going forward.
