Dr Rafaela Neiva

Liverpool Business School

Dr Ganga is an Associate Professor in Cultural & Health Management.

Grounded in principles of public sociology, Dr Ganga is developing a research and knowledge exchange programme addressing the value of culture at an individual level – e.g., mental health and wellbeing – and at a societal level – e.g., urban development. She is a recognised expert in methodological innovation and interdisciplinary research on culture and health. She is interested in engaged research designs where extra-academic publics participate and benefit from the research from the on-set to findings dissemination.

Dr Ganga is leading/co-leading nearly £3 million worth of research and consultancy funded by UK Research Councils, NIHR, Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, European Commission, and regional, national and international commissioning organisations. She has authored/co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles, books, podcasts and videos in the field of Sociology of Culture, Health and Methodological Innovation. Her engagement work is grounded on an extensive network across academia, health, business, third sector, and policymaking ranging from central to local government across the UK, Europe, and Brazil. Her contribution to the fields of Cultural & Health Management was recognised by being appointed European Commission Expert – Monitoring and Evaluation of the European Capital of Culture – and Newton Prize Reviewer – UK National Expert for UNESCO.

Before joining Liverpool John Moores University, she held Faculty positions at the University of Porto, University of Coimbra, and Porto Social Work School. Up to 2016, she held positions as visiting fellow and curator at Casa da Musica, Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art and Zet gallery (Portugal), Tate Liverpool (UK), Šiuolaikinio Meno Centras (Lithuania).
