Thomas is a Senior Lecturer and Degree Apprenticeship Programme Leader in Quantity Surveying at the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment in the Faculty of Technology and Environment, Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom. Since holding this post he has completed his Post-Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and is currently working towards a PhD in his field of expertise.

Thomas is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) and joined LJMU as a Senior Lecturer in 2012 following a career in industry working at two large global construction consultants. Thomas`s main teaching activities are measurement and costing and procurement. Thomas has worked within the following industry sectors; residential (medium to high spec apartment blocks), office blocks (spec and pre-let, CAT A&B), retail (shell and core), infrastructure (high spec public realm and public roads and footpaths) and education (new build and refurbishment of schools and colleges).

Thomas's research interests include the digitalisation of the built environment, Building Information Modelling and the capacity building of the various stakeholders associated with the Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship programme. Thomas recently co aouthored an RICS Insight paper:
