Dr Ben Matellini

School of Engineering

Dr Dante Benjamin Matellini is a Reader in Risk and Safety Management within the School of Engineering. Ben’s responsibilities include research, management of several collaborative partnerships, and delivery of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Ben’s area of expertise and research interest is in risk and safety management. Ben is interested in the development and application of risk management techniques within industry. He has previously worked on projects within the fire and rescue services, process industries, and Arctic shipping. Ben is director of study for several PhD projects in these areas, and more recently within logistics and supply chain management.

Ben manages collaborative partnerships for the University with Lloyds Maritime Academy, the German Academy of Foreign Trade and Logistics (DAV), Risktec, and the Sino-British College / University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. Ben is also the programme leader for the MSc degree apprenticeship in Risk and Safety Management, operated in collaboration with Risktec.

Prior to joining the University Ben was a risk and safety consultant at ABS Consulting (UK), working on oil and gas, and marine projects across the world. Ben also spent eight years in Peru working for the Government’s Maritime Institution, where he managed oceanographic projects and conducted research on the El Nino Southern Oscillation phenomenon.
