Christos Kontovas is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Maritime and Mechanical Engineering, LJMU. Dr. Kontovas holds a Diploma (2005) in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and a Ph.D. (2011) in the area of maritime safety and environmental protection. His research focuses on quantitative methods, including cost-benefit, decision and risk analysis, to health, safety and environmental protection (mainly oil spills and ship air emissions).
Christos holds an extensive experience from participation in several large-scale EU projects as well from being a member of the Greek delegation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). He has also been awarded a competitive FP7 Marie-Curie Career Integration Fellowship (PCIG14-GA-2013-631178 GreenShipping).
His publications include 6 book chapters, 15 journal papers (h-index 13, more than 900 citations in Google Scholar) and 15 fulltext papers in conference proceedings.

* 4105MAR LOGISTICS AND FREIGHT FORWARDING, LJMU, Delivery: Semester-long (13 teaching weeks)
This module examines and analyses the subject of logistics and how it functions. It makes specific reference to the various aspects of logistics and how they work. Specific elements of the logistics function, such as the supply chain, warehousing and methods of transport are covered, as well as the structure of logistics and transport systems.
* 5140MAR SHIPPING BUSINESS AND SHIPBROKING, LJMU, Delivery: Year-long (22 teaching weeks)
To examine and analyse aspects of shipping business and shipbroking which are relevant to the commercial operation of ships, and to provide knowledge and understanding with respect to costs and prices within the sector.
* 7144MAR INTERNATIONAL TRADE (LJMU)
To develop an understanding of the key influences affecting the international trade market, with particular reference to the impact they have on global logistics flows.
* 7142MAR GLOBAL TRANSPORT SYSTEMS (LJMU)
This module familiarises students with the range of transport options available to an international shipper to provide and insight into operational and economic matters and to develop a framework for transport mode selection. The aim of this module is to develop an insight into freight transport operations on an international scale, with particular reference to the role of intermodality.
* 7151MAR MARITIME SECURITY (LJMU)
The aim of this module is to appraise a range of contemporary security issues affecting the maritime and ports sectors, including an analysis of the effectiveness of mitigation policies and practices.
