After completing a BA (Hons) in Criminal Justice at Liverpool John Moores University in 2012, maintaining a keen interest in the sociology of drug use and related behaviours I continued my studies to complete an MA in Criminal Justice at LJMU in 2013.
I am now in the third year of my PhD that I am completing under the supervision of Professor Harry Sumnall and Amanda Atkinson (Centre for Public Health, LJMU) and Dr Rebecca Askew (Department of Sociology, Manchester Metropolitan University). The project, titled, “An exploration of the concept of ‘identity’ in non-dependent drug users and their substance related decision-making” applies theories of identity to drug use and how these 'drug user identities' might influence users' drug choices and related health behaviours.
